The People’s Committee of Thu Duc City has just commenced the construction of a project of 1,000 social housing units for workers at 100 Vo Chi Cong Street, Thanh My Loi Ward.

The project is invested by Thu Thiem Group Joint Stock Company, with financial sponsorship from Ho Chi Minh City State Financial Investment Company (HFIC) and construction by Phuoc Thanh Construction Joint Stock Company.

On October 30, the People’s Committee of Thu Duc City held the groundbreaking ceremony on a 20,875 m² site near Cat Lai Industrial Park, Thanh My Loi Ward, with a total investment of VND 1,200 billion. The "Social Housing for Workers" project includes more than 1,000 apartments, providing accommodation for over 3,000 people.

The project has a construction density of 60%, a building area of 12,525 m², a green space of 4,175 m², and a total floor area of 93,932 m² with over 1,000 apartments, along with commercial and service facilities, kindergartens, swimming pools, parks, and outdoor sports and recreation areas.

Groundbreaking Ceremony

The project is expected to be completed and put into use in Q4/2024. It aims to contribute to the social housing fund for workers who meet the criteria for purchasing, renting, or rent-to-own social housing, thereby addressing housing issues for low-income workers living in Thu Duc City.

Currently, Thu Duc City hosts many large industrial and export processing zones such as Linh Trung 1, Linh Trung 2, Binh Chieu, Cat Lai, and the High-Tech Park, with nearly 200,000 workers. About 70% of these workers come from other localities to live and work in Thu Duc City, creating significant demand for housing. Surveys show that most of these workers are temporarily staying in cramped rental houses that do not meet fire safety standards or adequate living conditions.

The workers’ housing project is one of the first of its kind to be built in Thu Duc City since its establishment, meeting the city’s criteria and general policies.
